Why Sell On Ebay?
Answer : Because it is there.
Some people may look down on artists who have chosen to sell some of their art on Ebay or other similar venues.
Personally I have enjoyed selling some of my art on Ebay. For one I can list and sell my work there anytime I feel
like it. I find this less restrictive than trying to sell my art through the local gallery scene where I live.
The unfortunate thing about selling art where I live is that most art is aimed and geared towards tourists
and people who really have no understanding or appreciation for contemporary art. If you paint Ducks, Beach Scenes,
or Lighthouses you will get rich here. No thanks.
For myself Ebay has opened many different avenues that would have never been possible just a few years ago. Since I
started selling art on Ebay I have been able to sell over somewhere in the neighborhood of a thousand Original works of art in 9 different countries. I have had
many repeat buyers who you could now consider "Collectors" of my work as some of them have bought 20, 30, 40 and more of my works!
The one aspect that I really like maybe more than anything I have said so far is the fact that I get to deal with the buyer
directly without having to go through a Gallery or Dealer. Do not get me wrong, I am not bashing all Galleries and Dealers.
They do indeed provide a great service to many artists. But right now at this point in my art career, which by the way started in
1994, dealing directly with the art buyer is a good thing. I have really enjoyed working with the different people that I have met
through Ebay and the Internet and it has opened many doors for me that would have never been possible without first listing my art for sale on Ebay.
One must remember what is happening right now is that there is a revolution underway since the advent of computers which has empowered
the artist in ways that was unheard of in years past. An artist does not have to reply on anyone else to show their work in order for their work to be seen, to be appreciated, to be purchased.
In the past an artist was at the mercy of others in many respects. Those days are over.
So some people may look down their nose at me for selling on Ebay but you have to remember this : I do not have a bunch of paintings
stacked up in closets or in corners collecting dust like so many artists that I know have. Selling art on Ebay has been a good step for me and it has led me to other things.
